Ford of Europe and its brands has been operating in 22 European countries, had 93 legal entities with over 120 bank loans and 240 bank accounts. This was making cash management a complex process. The expectation was to do consolidation of cash that was dispersed in European business units, then reduction of level of cash required by businesses, and its more efficient use through centralized cash management.

Integration into Ford organization to facilitate sales of electric vehicles through Ford owned National Sales Companies in Europe. Located in Norway Th!nk company was purchased by Ford in 1999. The Th!nk company was lacking processes, such as: accounting, reporting, pricing, and systems to provide sales and after sales support to customers in Europe. Ford management expectation was to fully integrate Th!nk into Ford mainstream processes with an objective to sell 400 electric vehicles in Europe, the first generation model, as if it was produced by Ford.

The internal audits performed in several European business units revealed inconsistencies and irregularities in the end-to-end investment processes. The incorrectly designed systems were overcharging customers with wrong level of fees, customer transactions were processed with delays, accounting errors, customer complaints, liquidity issues and loss of investment opportunities for customers. The expectation was to correct deficiencies in the first place and close any gaps in the processes. Then to develop common set of guidelines and principles.
